Sevenoaks Rugby is justifiably proud of the fact that no fewer than six of its former players are currently enjoying full-time professional rugby careers, in various different parts of the world; and, this year, we are particularly delighted that all six have sent us messages of good luck for the coming season. On Saturday the 1st XV went down to a fierce TJ's side that blew the doors open with some frenetic attacking play from the very first whistle. This didn't allow the team to get into any sort of pattern and implement any structure to their game, but Sevenoaks showed true grit and determination in the last 10 minutes to take the game back to TJ's and score the final two tries of the game. Some heroic defence by the A XV secured a 10-all draw against the Aylesford Bulls. Having attained a 10-5 half-time playing some scintillating rugby, resulting in 2 great tries scored by Humphrey's and Cosh respectively, the team were forced to batten down the hatches to repel a second half onslaught, but with the gnarly Aylesford side holding a vice like grip on possession in the second half, it was the grit and determination personified by the likes of Ben Smith and Woolacott that galvanised the team to hold on.
In the other home fixture, the Acorns secured a 14-7 win in the final move of the game with a well executed try by flyhalf Mike McMorran after the pack had dominated throughout. Finally, despite a late injection of youth into the pack, sterling defensive work and some superb jinking runs from skipper Steve 'Grumpy' Grice - playing at centre and then fly half instead of his usual tight-head prop - a rather cobbled together BXV leaked two tries in the first half and three in the second to finish up losing 29-0 for the second time this season against a strong Footscray side.
On Sunday the Sevenoaks U17s had another magnificent win in deepest Hampshire beating Overton, who had been unbeaten in 2 seasons, 33-12. 2 tries apiece from Charlie Nohre and Jamie Owen, 1 from Charlie Roberts and Alex Hadi and a penalty from Dom Saunders did the damage.
This Saturday sees the 1st XV away to Bromley in an important league encounter (kick-off 14h30) while both the 2’s and the Acorns have home fixtures against Dover and Maidstone over 45’s respectively. Come along and support all the teams in action, whether at home or away.

SRFC communications manager, website guru and Acorns captain Paul Groves frequently claims he can do things with his eyes closed. He almost had to put that into practice on Saturday when Pippa's formidable bandaging skills left the old warhorse somewhat visually impaired!
