Pathway to the top
Sevenoaks Rugby is justifiably proud of the fact that no fewer than six of its former players are currently enjoying full-time professional rugby careers, in various different parts of the world; and, this year, we are particularly delighted that all six have sent us messages of good luck for the coming season. Well, perhaps it had to happen sooner or later but it took a cruel interception try by Hove to end the 1st XV's run of nine consecutive victories, dating back to October 31. After skipper Tim Golds had finished off one of the "team" tries of the season and Matt Bates had kicked a penalty to level the scores at 13-all, it seemed we had a real chance of turning the tables on the second-place visitors - until fate intervened to keep Hove flying high and us still third but now five points behind.
Elsewhere the Ex1s recorded an excellent 38-5 away win over Westcombe Park, with Franco, Watmough and Scott outstanding in a classy back division. The AXV took on Cranbrook at home but, with a weakened team, lost 5-43 despite a spirited resistance against a stronger side. The ExA (Acorns) travelled to Gillingham and scraped out a 15-11 victory in a messy and error strewn encounter, while the Bs went down 27-7 in a spirited display against a sizeable Aylesford outfit.
On Sunday, the Academy continued their unbeaten league campaign at U18 level, beating Gravesend 10 nil. Carter scored twice and there also good performances from Thompson and the brothers Naismith.
Next week the 1st XV will look to get back to winning ways in a tough away game at Lewes, themselves enjoying a strong season. Please come and cheer the lads on if you can; 14.30 KO.

Pic of the week
Miles Hayward (crawling, far side) trying to show what a Tough Guy he really is by competing in the challenge of the same name on Sunday. In his own words:
"Well I am still in one piece although the thought of any more ice (even in my G&T) is unpleasant. A snowy -3c welcomed us to the “Tough Guy” and the sight of the “frozen” water sent a chill through our bones before we had even started. The starting gun was a welcome sound and 5000 people charged down the muddy hills through smoke grenades and fireworks. The run through the mud and water was made even harder by having to crawl through nets, over hay bales and through fire. I lost the feeling in my feet after the first half a mile and gradually the rest of my body as each obstacle came and went! The “water torture” was the worst. Going under the water 4 times under logs with the ice knocking you on the head and then having to walk a plank 10 feet above the water ready for a jump/dive in the freezing murky water. No points for my diving skills.
In total Colin and I have raised over £8,000 with £1,000 going to Great Ormond Street and £7,000 going to Demelza House. THANK YOU SO MUCH, for all your support and sponsorship.
