Oaks secure convincing win in the mud
Sevenoaks arrived at Beccs in miserable conditions and with the pitch looking very greasy, but thankful to be playing at all.
Oaks took the substantial slope in the first half and sloppily conceded a scrum from the kick off. However they were solid in the set pieces throughout the match and quickly put pressure on the opposition. Some good handling saw a break in the centres and the ball moved on to George Payne who ran in well from 35 metres. Oaks continued to press hard and surged towards the Beccs line. When the ball was moved right Copter Brunt was on hand to pick up and dive over from close range.
Despite the conditions Oaks put the ball through the hands and looked good on many occasions. However a forced pass was intercepted by a Beccs player who made good ground, although uphill was perhaps the decisive factor in him being caught and robbed of the ball. From a scrum the ball was kicked out of defence and caught by the Beccs winger just outside our 22. George Payne had chased hard and caught him quickly, stripping him of the ball and racing away to score a fine solo try, Piers Robinson adding the extras.
The half was brought to a close when Johnson jinked through a gap to put the ball out to Johansson who fed Belither up in support to score wide out.
Playing up the slope in the second half, and with some changes made, brought Beccs in to the game a bit more. However strong Sevenoaks defence snuffed out their attacks quickly and often led to turnover ball, Oaks anxious to keep the ball in play.
Johansson went over from close range to keep the momentum going, but then Beccs enjoyed their best spell of the game, forcing Oaks back on their line and scoring wide out after a powerful run. Oaks never let their heads drop for one moment and forced their way back upfield, further scores coming from Hampson through the centre and Dewhirst out wide.
A convincing win in a match played in good spirit, and with many positives to take from it.
