Sevenoaks U13 open season with emphatic win
On Sunday Sevenoaks U13 took part in their very first full 15 player match,
entertaining Aylesford at home. Expectations were high after four weeks of
good training, but it was also clear that the players were more than ready for some
real action.
Sevenoaks put pressure on the visitors from the kick off, and looked to attack at every opportunity. The instruction had been given to run the ball wide, and on a firm pitch it looked set
for a high-paced flowing game.
However, the first score came from a forward drive, Johansson going over from short range. This did not change the tone though, and shortly after the backs got in on the act, centre Hampson running powerfully for the line. Sevenoaks did little to allow Aylesford in to the match, winning ball at ease. Quick ball was run through the backs to put winger George Payne away with 40 metres to the line, and he outpaced the cover to score a fine try.
Several changes were made at half time and, although Oaks continued to dominate, the smoothness of play was disrupted somewhat, coupled with a more determined effort from Aylesford. The result was never going to be in doubt though, and a long range second try from Johansson, converted by Piers Robinson, was followed by a final score from Harry Robinson in the corner to complete a very satisfying day.
